Transforming a Newtown Backyard into a Functional Oasis

After the renovation of the back of the house, the outdoor space required landscaping to balance its functionality with visual appeal. The goal was to create a practical yet beautiful area for this Newtown home that would remain low-maintenance while providing a welcoming retreat for relaxation and entertaining.

Sleek & Durable Landscape Construction

The centrepiece of the transformation was our landscape construction process, which began with the installation of sleek basalt pavers, which offer a durable and contemporary surface ideal for outdoor living. These were complemented by sandstone block edging, which adds warmth and texture, framing the garden spaces with natural elegance. A raised garden bed constructed from recycled railway sleepers introduced a rustic and sustainable touch, harmonising perfectly with the modern design elements.

Lush & Low-Maintenance Plant Selection

To ensure the garden remained effortless to maintain, we carefully curated a selection of plants known for their resilience and aesthetic appeal. Along the narrow side passage, the vibrant greenery of Chinese Star Jasmine and Ophiopogon was chosen to bring texture and depth, thriving even in shaded conditions.

At the heart of the backyard, a striking Crabapple tree was planted as a standout feature. Its seasonal bursts of colour not only provide a stunning visual focal point but also enhance the garden’s inviting atmosphere throughout the year.
