Work With a Gardening Team That Takes Horticulture Seriously

Good gardening goes well beyond keeping things tidy. It takes someone who notices the early signs of stress in a plant, understands how Inner West soils shift across seasons, and finds real satisfaction in watching a garden thrive under consistent, knowledgeable care. That’s the kind of work Appleseed is built around — and it’s the kind of person we’re looking for.

If you’re a qualified horticulturist, landscaper, or someone building a long-term career in horticulture within Sydney’s Inner West, we’d love to hear from you. We’re always interested in connecting with people who take pride in their work and are passionate about professional garden care.

A Small Team, Rooted in the Inner West

Appleseed Gardening is led by Darren Kerr, a formally qualified horticulturist with certifications from UTS and Ryde TAFE. Since 2015, the team has worked exclusively across Sydney’s Inner West, getting to know the gardens, the soils, and the clients who value genuine garden care.

Joining Appleseed means being part of a small, close-knit team where your horticultural knowledge genuinely matters. You won’t be part of a large rotating crew or constantly travelling across Sydney. You’ll work alongside Darren, build real familiarity with a consistent set of clients, and do skilled work that’s noticed and appreciated.

What you can expect:

  • All professional tools are provided
  • Consistent hours and stable, local rounds across Newtown, Marrickville, Annandale, Balmain, Dulwich Hill, and surrounding suburbs
  • Direct collaboration with Darren on more complex horticultural and garden management decisions
  • A straightforward working relationship with no corporate layers
  • The opportunity to deepen your expertise working in established Inner West gardens

Appleseed is a team where horticultural knowledge and practical experience are genuinely valued. We’re always interested in hearing from qualified horticulturists, landscapers, or those formally training in the field who want to build a long-term career working with established Inner West gardens.

If that sounds like the kind of gardening role in Sydney you’ve been looking for, take a look at the current openings below or get in touch for a conversation.

FAQs

Do I need horticultural qualifications to work at Appleseed?

Yes, horticultural qualifications or relevant formal training are strongly preferred. We’re looking for people who see horticulture or landscaping as a professional career and who bring a solid understanding of plant care, garden maintenance, and seasonal garden management.

What areas do Appleseed gardeners work in?

Most of our work takes place across Sydney’s Inner West. This includes suburbs such as Newtown, Marrickville, Annandale, Balmain and Dulwich Hill, where we maintain gardens for long-term residential and strata clients.

What kind of work is involved in a gardening role?

Typical work includes lawn care, pruning, hedge trimming, planting, mulching and seasonal garden tidy-ups. The focus is on maintaining plant health and keeping gardens tidy and manageable over time.

Is the work full-time or casual?

Positions may vary depending on current needs, but most roles involve consistent hours and regular work across established client rounds. Because we focus on the Inner West, the work is local and predictable rather than spread across distant parts of Sydney.

What makes working at Appleseed Gardening different from other gardening jobs?

Appleseed is a small horticulture-focused team rather than a large landscaping company with rotating crews. Gardeners work closely together, build familiarity with the same clients, and develop a deeper understanding of how local gardens change across seasons.
